Vaingloriously
she glances through the looking glass
Hauntingly
she places the fingertips, so she is closer,
Closer
to gaze at her own reflection, an
Unrequited love
that’s what she has
Lust?
no,
Unrequited love
that’s what she has
Tenaciously
swearing her quintessence still remains
The Looking glass
the looking glass
that’s what she has
unrequited love
the looking glass…
that’s what she has…

Author's Comments

Take from it what you will,
In a sense it is exposing me, but I don't believe I am vain, that's just there to add texture.
The experimental side of it is the way I have approached it. The one worded lines should connect the two lines that adjoin it, although this does not always work perfectly. After just finishing 'Persuasion', I have noticed a more formal approach to my writing, which I believe has come through.

I would appreciate feedback, so feel obligated to comment.

Thanks

Interesting. I like the repetition of "that's what she has". I don't think that the adverbs work very well though (in any poetry, not just this).

It puts me in mind of "Alice through the Looking Glass", seems to have a similar undercurrent, very good.

All matter is simply energy condensed to a slow vibration and we are, therefore, one consciousness experiencing itself subjectively. We create our own worlds, yet are shaped by our connections to one another, from our love to our hate. We are one.

You should give it a read, one of Lewis Carrols best and, like i said, has a very similar feel to this poem. Either way, great work.
